Who are we and what do we do?

We work on a voluntary basis to develop positive experiences in those parts of the world that have a prolonged period of darkness and cold.

This is about, cooperation with other players, to further ennoble darkness and cold into something that enriches the lives of both those who live in these areas and for those who have the privilege of visiting this part of the world.

Sustainability Policy for Winter Swimming in Skellefteå

Winter Swimming in Skellefteå is organised with consideration for people, the environment, and the place in which we operate. Our ambition is to contribute to a sustainable and attractive Skellefteå – today and in the future.

For us in the Association of the Happy Friends of Darkness and Cold, sustainability means taking responsibility for our impact on the environment, society, and the economy. We strive to ensure that everyone feels welcome, safe, and inspired, and that our activities leave a positive legacy.

Our work aligns with Skellefteå’s sustainability goals and follows the principles of sustainable events.

Our sustainability efforts are based on three pillars:

Environmental sustainability

  • Minimise waste and provide clear waste sorting
  • Prioritise fossil-free transport options and local suppliers
  • Serve locally sourced and sustainably produced food
  • Encourage the use of public transport

Social sustainability

  • Create a safe and inclusive environment for all
  • Increase awareness of sustainability among volunteers and participants
  • Contribute to a sense of community and pride among residents and visitors

Economic sustainability

  • Make long-term decisions that ensure the continuity of the event
  • Support local businesses and create value for the destination

We evaluate our sustainability efforts and continuously develop them ahead of each annual event.

For us, sustainability is about care – for the place, for one another, and for the future.

Come as a guest and leave as a friend.
